18 years of experience in Luxury Art & Design
Jennifer Mahanay is a multidisciplinary designer with experience spanning brand strategy, design systems, photo art direction, and content creation across digital & print. Formerly Creative Director at Wright auction house, she led coast-to-coast teams and stewarded multiple brands—while remaining hands-on in graphic design, print, and photo art direction.
Working at Wright from the start of my career, I began as a graphic designer in the small, in‑house studio for the boutique modern art and design auction house. Capitalizing on my dual degrees in photography and graphic design, I worked closely with the photography team from week one. That collaboration quickly became one of the most enjoyable parts of my role, and I would later grow to oversee in‑house photography across all locations nationwide.
As I grew into an Art Director role, I evolved alongside the industry—shifting from a print‑based communications model to a digital powerhouse that functioned more like an e‑commerce engine. In 2019 Wright merged with Rago in Lambertville NJ, marking the beginning of a significant period of growth. Rago/Wright subsequently grew to acquire LA Modern auctions (LAMA) in Los Angeles, CA, and Toomey & Co., in Chicago in 2021. Under my leadership, the Chicago team became the hub for all creative work—centralizing design, photography standards, and production, elevating the new brands and bringing consistency across channels.
In 2024, I directed the production of over 25,000 curated lots across 167 auctions, achieving $121 million in sales while also launching the two newest auction brands in the Rago/Wright portfolio: Landry Pop Auctions and Poster Auctions International.
As Creative Director, I led the creative vision for six distinct auction houses, cultivating each brand’s unique identity through visual storytelling. While the material varied widely from brand to brand and collection to collection, a commitment to quality of presentation anchored the work. During a five‑year period of rapid expansion—when the organization doubled in size—I revitalized visual identity systems for newly acquired brands and partnered with development teams to build tools that enhanced internal workflows. Notably, I drove ongoing improvements to Rago/Wright’s custom content management system, a cloud‑based image workflow, and front‑end tools that increased bid activity and user engagement. Even as volume grew, we kept the craft close—producing elegant print for special collections, tailored photo shoots, and layered digital storytelling at the core of our practice.
Mentorship was a critical part of my role. At peak, I directed a 19‑person, multi‑site team across design, photography, and production—working closely with teammates at all levels, leaning into unique talents, and encouraging staff to grow as brand ambassadors. I believe creative work is better when teammates collaborate closely and push one another to raise the bar. I believe in rigor, curiosity and exploration. I have a deep passion for design, typography, photography, and technology. Making beautiful things is a passion—collaborating with other creatives is a joy and a privilege.
When I’m not at work, I like to rest my eyes from the computer, breathe fresh air and play outside. I love camping, hiking, running, and traveling to parks across the country with my husband and two kiddos.
I’m currently exploring opportunities for the next chapter and would be happy to share my résumé. If you’d like to talk more, I’d love to hear from you—please get in touch!
